Grosse Pointe United Cycling Club
Two wheels. One team. No finish line.
About Us
Grosse Pointe United is a local cycling club giving junior riders – boys and girls age 19 and under – the opportunity to learn, train, and compete in road and track cycling. GP United members can participate in weekly group training rides, as well as compete in local and regional races, sanctioned by USA Cycling (USAC) and the Michigan Bicycle Racing Association (MBRA). GP United is dedicated to helping every rider learn not only how fast they can go on a bike but how far they can go in life.
Grosse Pointe United Cycling Club (GPUCC), Inc. is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization.
Rides
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, there are typically three weekly GP United training rides, on Wednesday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings. Each two- to three-hour ride is led by GP United coaches and begins with a brief pre-ride lesson focused on a specific riding fundamental, skill or technique which is then put into practice on the ride. For specific times, locations, and routes, check out our group ride calendar and join us.
Races
In a typical road racing season, there are numerous individual races and race series sanctioned by USAC and the MBRA, which are open to all registered GP United riders. Typically, GP United racers will compete in the Junior and/or Cat5 events. Travel to and from each race is the responsibility of each individual but, whenever possible, GP United will organize and coordinate ride sharing. During the winter, GP United racers who have completed track training, are also eligible to compete at the Lexus Velodrome. View our current race calendar.
Road
Cycling is about more than just pushing pedals – it’s about pushing yourself. GP United’s mission is to train and develop riders who understand safety, self-discipline, fair play and the rewards of setting and achieving both personal and team goals. We’ll succeed when a GP United rider wins a college cycling scholarship or qualifies to compete on a national or international level. Or just rides away thinking, “Well, that was fun.”
Track
There are only two indoor velodromes in the United States – fortunately for GP United, one of them is the Lexus Velodrome in downtown Detroit. Completed in 2017, this state-of-the-art 166 meter track features 50 degree banked turns and offers free equipment, training, and racing for all riders 17 and under. Are you lucky or what? Primarily during the winter months, GP United riders can learn, train, and race at this exclusive venue.
